What is this telling us?

Each spoke is one of the 120 most populous capital cities, windiest first, clockwise from the top: ranked by the average of each day's strongest wind. Each ring is a month, January in the middle and this month on the outside.

How to read this

The number beside each city is that average for the year so far, in km/h. This month fills in as each day ends.

The legend

  • 12 to 15 km/h, average daily top wind
  • 15 to 18 km/h
  • 18 km/h and over
  • Under 12 km/h, a still month
